Reskill into Design

Design (UI/UX/Product) is very accessible from creative or marketing backgrounds. Harder on entry-level openings, but fast growth once you're in. Portfolio is the absolute key.

Typical reskilling path

  1. 1

    Audit (1 month)

70% of a successful reskilling rests on transferable skills you already have. Audit them first, not new ones.

  2. 2

    Education (3-12 months)

Intensive bootcamp (3-6 months), state-funded training, or self-taught with a coach. Aim for 3 or 4 "core" skills, not 15.

  3. 3

    Portfolio (in parallel)

2 to 3 concrete projects — proof > diploma. For tech profiles: public code, deployed app. For others: case studies, real deliverables.

  4. 4

First role (3-6 months of applications)

Target: a team that mentors. €38k in a learning team beats €50k where you're left alone.

  5. 5

    Stabilise (12-18 months)

Like every junior: measurable impact, reliability, ramp-up. Junior → Mid in 18 to 24 months for serious career changers.
